Know-How

Earthenware stoves are rising again from their ashes thanks to François Didier-Claudel, one of the last restorers and creators in France.

RESTORATION

The restoration requires a methodical work : dismantling, cleaning, strengthening of the ceramics, replacement of the tiles and filling with fireproof earthenware. Then come the mending of the hot plate and of the doors and finally the polishing of the marble. Sometimes, new tiles need to be made from the mouldings of original ones, copies of the missing ones being realized with the same colour and relief. This work may take a long time, depending of the importance of the restoration.

REPRODUCTION

The Earthenware Stove Workshop is a specialist even renowned beyond the ocean for the reproduction of earthenware stoves in the Empire Style. Models sometimes monumental, of a bright white colour, equipped with a ceramic column, a hot plate and a door for loading the wood, both brass-rimmed, have been a huge success in 1998 at the exhibition "La Vie de Château" in New-York. These reproductions can be of different shapes, sizes and colours.

CREATION

The know-how gained by François in the course of the restoration of earthenware stoves allowed him to undertake the creation of stoves in all styles according to customers’ wish and taste, whether modern, ancient or contemporary.

SECOND HAND

In the workshop, you may find a selection of splendid, perfectly restored earthenware stoves (see our slides as well). François Didier-Claudel buys back stoves of any type, so do not hesitate to visit him at the workshop, or contact him at 33 (0)3 29 67 47 04 or +33 (0)6 07 66 28 38.
